🏴‍☠️ Guide to Stalls and Shoppes in Puzzle Pirates#

Running a stall or shoppe is the heart of production in Puzzle Pirates. Whether you’re just starting out with a stall or managing a full-scale shoppe, success comes down to smart management of resources, labor, and pricing. This guide organizes everything you need to know to get your feet off the ground, while tying in tips for using our app to track and optimize your business.

📖 Quick Navigation#

1. Stalls vs. Shoppes#

Stalls

  • Entry-level, located in a bazaar.
  • Cheap to open, easy to manage, and perfect for learning.
  • Downsides: limited storage and fewer tools.
  • Always personal—cannot be transferred or sold.

Shoppes

  • Permanent buildings on the island, purchased with a deed (tradeable like ship deeds).
  • Larger storage capacity.
  • Handle high-volume production (e.g., shipyards making frigates).
  • Higher costs, but much greater flexibility.

👉 In short: stalls are training wheels, shoppes are the goal.

2. Management Essentials#

Running a shop is about control. You’ll juggle money, commodities, labor, and customer orders. Here’s how:

Building Records#

  • Shows all transactions and changes.
  • Red = money out (wages, orders).
  • Green = money in (sales, deposits).
  • Also tracks staff and furniture changes.

➡️ Think of this as your accounting book. Always check here first when you can’t balance the numbers.

Shoppe Management Menu#

Most of your work happens here:

1. Manage Inventory#

  • Inventory Tab: See what’s in storage and transfer goods between shops/ships.
  • Buy/Sell Commodities: Control input and output of materials.
  • Market Bidding: Place bid tickets for bulk commodities (doesn't use storage space).
    • Market bidding is almost always cheaper than buying commodities dockside.
    • Fees are structured so that larger orders save you money, especially when bidding above 200 PoE per unit.
    • Multiple small bids may fill faster, but increase fees—balance speed vs. efficiency.

About Commodities:

  • 🪵 Raw commodities come from markets, pillaging merchant brigands, or player sales.
  • ⚒️ Refined commodities are crafted from raw ones in stalls/shoppes, and can be processed further.
  • 📦 Finished commodities are the end products, ready for delivery — they can only be stored in ships/buildings (never personal inventory).

💡 Tip: Check our Commodity & Markets page for a list of which raw commodities spawn at each island. Use this with market bidding to maximize profit margins.

2. Order for the Shoppe#

Order products from other shoppes or stalls on the same island, paid from shop coffers.

3. Shoppe Recipes#

Lists required ingredients for each product.

💡 Tip: Our app’s Recipe Calculator does the math for you: Enter commodity prices, labor rates, and island taxes. See the true production cost and potential profit before queuing orders.

4. Manage Prices#

This is the most important shoppe management screen — every column affects how efficiently your stall or shoppe runs.

  • Commodity: Shows the name and icon of each resource you can use.
  • On Hand: Current stock in your inventory.
  • Buy Price: Must be checked to post a buy offer. Your buy price is visible to competitors, traders, and ships in port.
  • Sell Price: Must be checked to make goods available through dockside sales. Like buy prices, these are publicly visible.
  • Use/Cost: The fee you charge when a commodity is consumed in a recipe. This should always be higher than your buy price to guarantee profit. Must be checked to allow production with that commodity.
  • Min Stock: The lowest amount of a commodity you want to keep. If stock falls to this level, dockside sales automatically stop.
  • Max Stock: The maximum amount of a commodity you want to keep. Dockside buying halts at this level.
  • Products Tab: Here you can enable/disable specific goods you produce and apply a markup or markdown. Enter a positive number to increase the final price or a negative number to lower it. This adjustment stacks on top of the Use/Cost totals.
  • Tax Rates Tab: Shows the current island-wide commodity tax rates. These directly cut into your margins and vary across oceans.

5. Manage Labor#

  • Wages & Charged Rates: Always charge customers more than what you pay your workers.
  • Staff Tab: See employees, hours worked, and pay earned.
  • Labor Report: Daily summary of output and wages.
  • Edit Managers: Add/remove co-managers (up to 5 in a shoppe).

💡 Tip: Use our Labor Management Tool:

  • Track badge hours for all your alts.
  • Know when to refresh labor badges.
  • Prevent downtime by spotting accounts running low on hours.

6. Reserve Labor#

  • Bank unused labor hours for future orders.
  • Capacity depends on stall/shoppe type.

7. Manage Orders#

  • Shows customer orders and escrowed funds.
  • Labor costs draw from escrow first, then coffers.
  • Orders left ready for 40+ days become “abandoned” and can be delivered by managers.

Dockside Sales#

Shoppes can sell finished goods directly via dockside (e.g., rum, cannonballs).

  • Owners must order and deliver, or source these goods themselves to set up dockside sales.
  • Prices are set under Manage Prices.
  • Customers generally buy from the lowest price first.

⚠️ Always calculate costs before selling—dockside sales at a loss will sink your coffers.

Taxes in Puzzle Pirates#

Running a stall or shoppe isn’t free — two types of taxes apply: property tax (rent) and sales tax. Knowing how they work helps you keep your coffers in check.

About Taxes:

  • 🏠 Property tax (rent): Paid weekly to the fort or palace of the island. A baseline amount depends on your shop type, then scales with island population. Governors can set an extra % on top — up to +50% with a fort, +100% with a palace.
  • 🛒 Sales tax: Charged when products are ordered through a shoppe/stall interface (not on dockside sales). Based on standardized “tax values” of ingredients + labor. Most of it sinks out of the game, with a small cut going to palace coffers.
  • 📊 Impact on you: Property tax reduces your net profits weekly, while sales tax is baked into the cost of producing goods. Both make margins tighter, so always check local tax rates before deciding where to set up shop.

3. Labor: The Fuel of Production#

Labor is what turns commodities into finished goods. It comes in three grades—Basic, Skilled, and Expert—consumed in that order (Expert → Skilled → Basic). Grades come from puzzle performance: Booch/Fine = Basic, Good = Skilled, Excellent/Incredible = Expert. Each puzzle session provides up to 2 hours of labor if badge hours are available. Managing labor supply and wages is what keeps your shop running.

Labor by Ocean Type#

Ocean TypeSubscriptionLabor BadgeDeluxe Badge
Subscription48 hrs/day
Doubloon24 hrs/day72 hrs/day
  • No badge = online-only labor via puzzling on free days.
  • Badges = continuous offline labor for 10 days after your last puzzle session.

Getting and Using Jobs#

  • Finding work: Look for “Help Wanted” signs.
  • Wages: Shops pay every 12 hours. Labor always goes to the highest-paying job first.
  • Job slots: Each pirate can hold 3 jobs; use multiple pirates or standardize wages if you want labor spread evenly.
  • Firing rule: Must log in at least once every 10 days to keep a job.

Reports and Management#

  • Pirate Labor Report: Shows where your pirate’s hours went.
  • Shoppe Labor Report: Daily breakdown of employee output and wages (keeps 10 days).
  • Reserves: Some unused hours can be banked, depending on stall/shoppe type.
  • Wages: Always make sure customer charges cover what you’re paying your workers.
